The Defense Innovation Board, an independent US federal advisory committee that provides advice to the Department of Defense, has issued a report with recommendations of ethical principles to guide the use of artificial intelligence for both combat and non-combat purposes.
The report reviews current ethnical frameworks in the defense department and offers five principles to guide DoD AI use, specifying that such use should be: 1) responsible, 2) equitable, 3) traceable, 4) reliable, and 5) governable.
Moving beyond the principles, the report includes recommendations for making them actionable in the context of the department.
