Reporting for NBC News, Char Adams explains the plan of the state-appointed superintendent for the Houston Independent School District to remove librarians from school libraries and convert the libraries into centers for students removed from classrooms for disciplinary problems. The students would join their lessons virtually from the centers. It remains to be seen how these students might fare when moved to distance learning and how distance learning itself might be viewed when it comes to being associated with disruptive students. Because distance learning typically requires a good deal of self-discipline and focus, this does not seem like a winning strategy, at least for those students removed from their regular classrooms.
