According to a report in the Hindustan Times, India’s top 100 universities will be able to offer fully online degree programs under a new education policy designed to increase the capacity of India to meet the growing demands of what by 2030 will be the world’s largest working age population. One goal is to make education more accessible and affordable.
The new education policy will also allow foreign universities to offer programs in India and permit foreign direct investment in the education sector. As India seeks to become an education provider for students from Asian and African countries, it will also introduce a test, the Ind-SAT, to provide information to inform scholarship decisions for study in India. With these developments India is poised to grow its education sector for both domestic and foreign students with online learning a key component.
