Rachael Abraham: New Year, New Me PLN

Project 4 Idea

The idea behind New Year, New Me was to create a way for Users to achieve their New Years resolutions by optimizing their social networks and growing personally throughout the process. There are many people, including myself, who do not achieve their NY resolutions, for a variety of reasons. If there was a platform that could help people with similar resolutions connect, then maybe it might be easier to achieve the goal by relying on one another and forming lasting and meaningful personal connections to people in your area. In a way, the platform allows you to create a PLN for whatever your goal may be.

Why New Year, New Me is important

New year, New Me is important because it brings together a social platform, an organizing tool, and integrations with MeetUp and other platforms. It can also help people expand their learning goals by providing suggestions for people so that they can see personal growth over time, through the use of the platform.

Home Page of the platform: New Year, New Me. There several different elements of the platform, like an integration with Meetup, a spot to make resolutions, a meeting space to meet fellow goal-keepers who might have similar goals as you.
About Us page
To get started on the platform, a User needs to specify some NY goals they are interested in achieving for the given year. I used myself as an example. By specifying what your goals are, it will make it easier to find people who may have similar goals and help me identify people I can rely on.
After inputting some NY goals, the platform will also make some suggestions, based on goals that other Users inputted. There are also links to popular MeetUp groups as well as communities on the platform that will make it easier for the User to get in touch with people with similar interests and identify their starting points to achieve their goals.
After identifying your specific goals, there is an organizing space for each User to plan out how they will go about and achieve their goals. I chose cocktail-making in particular because I enjoy throwing dinner parties and think it will help elevate my social events. So, I’ll need to plan out how I believe I can achieve creating good cocktails, as well as formulate a task list so that I stay on track.
There should also be a space to tag the specificities of the NY goal. In my cocktail-making case, I have tagged 3 drinks that I would like to learn to make so that I can focus on those ingredients, and hopefully find other people who are knowledgeable about the ingredients and types of gin, as well as any tools that are necessary to create these, like mixers or muddlers, or special glasses.
There is also a Connect feature that allows for Users to connect and ask each other questions. For example, I made a post about wanting to try out a gin bar that is close to me, and anyone else who is interested is able to click on my profile, see my NY Resolutions and see if they relate at all to theirs. In this case, another User was interested because he had a similar goal, and now he can be added to my network as a friend.
