Beyond College: YouTube and Higher Learning

Writing in Essence, Jasmine Browley calls attention to the prospects of turning to YouTube to supplement and at times perhaps replace the kinds of learning experiences that one might find in college level classes. She identifies 8 channels in areas from science, engineering, business and others, including one by a Columbia University professor, that are providing high quality learning experiences.

With over 2.6 billion active monthly users there is no doubt that YouTube is a major force on the internet. There is also little doubt that it is a source of information and learning in a broad variety of areas from entertainment to home repair. What is less widely recognized is how YouTube is becoming a source of the learning experiences typically associated with higher education. Stay tuned!
