Not everyone is cut out for remote work. Some people will just perform better when they come in to the workplace everyday. Carrie McKeegan who only hires remote workers has identified three characteristics of successful remote workers.
McKeegan’s experience leads her to conclude that individuals who can communicate clearly in writing, those who can operate independently, and those who can solve problems on their own, but also know when they need to ask for help from fellow workers are more likely to be successful remote workers.
Knowing that these trails will lead someone to succeed at remote work is one thing, but detecting these traits before hiring is something else. Fortunately, McKeegan suggests ways to structure the hiring process to allow employers to determine if a candidate possesses these traits.
