An introduction to multiple normative perspectives on the activities connected to progress in our capacity to examine learning and learners, represented most notably by the rise of learning analytics. Learners will develope strategies for framing and responding to the range of values-laden opportunities and dilemmas presented to the research, policy, and practice communities as a result of the increasing capacity to monitor learning and learners.

We will use the project method. Be sure to review the project method in the Latrlab introductory journey. We will move through three projects that address the issues affecting data on learners from birth to post-secondary education. The weekly background readings and activities are designed to help you prepare for the project work, and provide opportunities for collaboration with your project team to advance your projects.

The three projects are designed to move through major topics that you are likely to encounter in your work on an analytics team. The projects are:

Project 1 – Data on Learners from Birth to Kindergarten

Project 2 – Data on Learning in K to 12

Project 3 – Data on Post-Secondary Learning and Learners
