Writing in The Conversation, Anne Toomey McKenna from Penn State describes the many projects funded to increase surveillance for the games. The funds allowed local governments and private companies to deploy new generations of technologies, and as McKenna notes, these surveillance tools are unlikely to be put away after the games.
