Self-directed projects can lead to some amazing learning opportunities, and sustaining such projects over a long period of time can lead to impressive progress. That is only one of the things that makes one special project experience worth examining.
A group of teens from Mississippi created an adaption of Raiders of the Lost Ark in a project that spanned seven years, learning at each step of the way in what became their own film school. The excerpt below from Backyard Blockbusters chronicles the project with incites into the learning that took place throughout the project. Moreover, this is one of the few projects that is long enough to provide incite into the development of those involved.
For a more complete detailed examination of the project, including the shooting of a final scene years later, see the 2015 documentary that tells the complete story.
