Doing Great Work

Writing in Inc. Justin Bariso draws on examples from Jeff Bezos to discuss the importance of defining the scope of a project. Understanding the scope of a project, particularly the amount of work and time required to do something well, is the key to achieving good results. By detailing what success looks like and all of the tasks required to achieve success it is more likely that we will not fall prey to underestimating just how much time and effort will be required.

Bariso highlights the advantages of defining scope at the outset of a project, most notably reducing stress and increasing the chances of success. This places the tedious work of carefully defining the elements of a project in a larger context where the goal is setting the conditions to do great work.
