Lurking as a Way of Learning Online

In an article in Wired, Paul Ford shares his strategies for learning online, a pattern of behavior that he describes as lurking or sneakbrowsing. Although he views his approach as somewhat passive, there are a number of interesting approaches that he uses to learn from the network of people and materials online. Most of these strategies involve behind the scenes approaches to understanding authors as well as their products. He may be developing a new style of self-directed learning for the networked world.
