Writing in Educause Review, Perry Samson tells an interesting, and perhaps common, story of how students negotiate the question of face-to-face vs online class formats. Although many express a preference for face-to-face classes, in practice students find plenty of reasons to prefer online options and at least for large classes they favor making a streaming option available. We seem to be at a point in time along the transition to more and better online options where opinions are fluid and changing, often within the a single semester. We may stay in this state at the top of the fence for awhile, but it is clear that we will not be falling back to exclusively face-to-face delivery.
