Using Online Learning to Expand Opportunity

Stanford University has announced a new program in partnership with the National Education Equity Lab to offer Stanford online courses to underserved students in high schools across the U.S. The pilot effort involves a computer science course offered by a Stanford instructor for students in teacher-led classrooms in Title I schools.

With much of online learning simply reinforcing existing inequities in the educational system, it is encouraging to see this effort intended to expand opportunities for students who have been denied such opportunities in the US educational system. Stanford intends to expand the program to include a variety of courses in the future.
