Chinese citizens have raised objections to the use of facial recognition at theme parks, hotels, and other common venues.

The adoption of facial recognition and the collection of facial data shows no sign of stopping with facial recognition technology now amounting to a $10 billion industry in 2018 and projected to double by 2023. There are advantages of using facial recognition, particularly when paired with AI for such things as providing security at the entry to subway systems or airports.

Efforts are underway to develop regulations to govern facial data. There, is movement to adopt laws to protect citizens from the misuse of facial data by third party marketers and to prevent it from falling into the hands of criminals who might use it to access financial accounts.
