End of the Road for Standardized Testing?

Steven Singer calls attention to the threat posed to the requirement for standardized testing by the continuing pandemic in the U.S. With schools facing serious challenges in maintaining face-to-face operations and with students and their families under increased stress, school leaders will be asking to have standardized testing mandates lifted for this year.

After guiding us through a list of reasons why it may be way past the time to abandon such testing practices, he notes the size and wealth of the forces supporting standardized testing in U.S. schools. Singer does a fine job spelling out the real stakes and the battle space.

Sadly, it all has nothing to do with learning, expanding opportunities, or even providing adequate assessments of students.
