Writing in the World Economic Forum, Conrad Hughes asks whether the pandemic provides an opportunity to disrupt what he refers to as “the social ritual of examination.” With major examination programs cancelled schools have turned to alternatives.
Conrad points to the International School of Geneva for its adoption of alternative assessments as part of the Universal Learning Program created with UNESCO. These assessments include collaborative deep learning projects and viva voce interviews.
Examinations have a long history and the current examination rituals are important for maintaining the sense that everyone is treated equally. Breaking away from the examination habit will be difficult.
